Runstreak Day #242-ish - flippin' love running

I think I may have been on holiday too long, I can't remember (without looking) what day of running this is other than it's more than 240. Let's call it 242 shall we?

Anyhow, it was a jolly nice run this morning.  Sparkly fresh out and a hint of breeze. Magic. And best of all my knee is barely hurting at all now - and I'm SO relieved about that. I really don't know what I did to it other it's taken almost two weeks of very gentle running, short distances (okay a sneaky 6 and 8 miler happened, but they were flat which is sensible, right?) for it to start to feel right again. I'm calling it 'active recovery' - lots of stretching, knee strengthening exercises and relaxed, careful running.

And today for the first time in what feels like ages my 7 minute mile pace returned without me pushing it at all.  I've never hurt myself before with running so this knee thing has been a bit scary and I've doubted whether or not I could carry on running with it.  That hasn't felt good at.  In fact, I've hated it. It's frustrated me to s ridiculous degree so to feel normal again today was amazing.

I ran alongside the river, listening to it burbling happily... I ran past the skittish sheep... I ran up a steepish hill and sat at the top, looking down at where I'd come from and felt properly, toe tingly happy. And when I ran back down, my aeroplane arms came out and I felt the juddering speed making my eyes water.  And after I'd emerged from under the canopy of trees and was running back up the lane towards the campsite, I stopped. Held both of my arms out. And felt the wind blowing me, holding me and making me feel alive.

Running without pain, I've missed you. It was nice to find you again today!

I bloody love running.
